EMWD's Water Education Program provides a series of tours for classes in the 10 school districts and private schools within Eastern's service area.

The EMWD has a tour program for students in grade levels 4-12. The 2-hour tours have a maximum of 35 students with a one-to-eight adult-to-student ratio.

Moreno Valley or Perris Water Reclamation Facilities
Students see for themselves what happens to water after it goes down the drain. Primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment of wastewater collection are covered.

Hemet/San Jacinto Water Reclamation Facility
The Hemet/San Jacinto Water Reclamation Facility is now open for tours. For information on other programs offered by EMWD's education department contact Malea Ortloff, Education Specialist at (951) 928-3777, ext. 4405 or email ortloffm@emwd.org.

EMWD's Operations and Maintenance Center Students get a chance to observe various departments within the water district and how they work together to supply an efficient, quality water supply to the surrounding area. The tour includes stops at the Water Quality Lab, Central Control, the Machine Shop, the Auto Shop, the Gas Engine Shop, the Warehouse, and a display model showing the various parts of a water system (such as pipes, water meter, and hydrant). Additional areas may also be included.

Hemet or Moreno Valley Water Distribution System With the help of a pre-tour classroom presentation discussing such concepts as watersheds, groundwater, wells, water pressure, and gravity flow, students are prepared for this tour in which the water is completely enclosed in tanks and pipes and cannot be seen directly by the students. Facilities visited include pumping plants, booster stations, wells, reservoirs, and water tanks.
