Providing California with safe, reliable, clean water
EMWD applauds Senator Feinstein and Governor Schwarzenegger's leadership to address the state's water problems.EMWD believes the solution must include local resource management, water conservation, and consideration of the problems in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta ecosystem and water supply. The result will be safe, reliable and clean water for all Californians.
Eastern Municipal Water District steps forward to implement a water budget-based tiered rate structure by March 2009
To encourage customers to use water wisely, the EMWD Board of Directors will consider options for implementing water budget-based tiered rates at the next Board meeting on Wednesday, July 16, 2008. Water budget-based tiered rates would meet objectives for fairness, water use efficiency, and revenue stability.
Eastern Municipal Water District to launch and enforce “Stop Runoff” Program
The District’s new “Stop Runoff” program, effective September 1, 2008, requires water efficient landscapes in new development and notifies and penalizes existing customers for water waste due to runoff. Often, more than half the water consumed by customers is for irrigation, and a majority of that irrigation is excessive. The revised Water Use Efficiency Ordinance encourages existing and future customers to make water efficiency a permanent way of life.
